The first few days of the Fluid Boundaries Regional Residencies at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, at Fiocruz in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and at Eawag in Dübendorf, Switzerland were marked by an energetic exchange between artists and scientists, fostering an environment of shared interests, transdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration.
As the residencies began, the artists Kamil Hassim, Carla Maldonado and Michael Azkoul presented their work and motivation to the scientific communities and were introduced to the laboratory spaces, gradually familiarizing themselves with specialized equipment and tools. They engaged with research and technical staff, gaining insights into ongoing scientific projects and methodologies.
Simultaneously, scientists had the chance to explore the artists' conceptual frameworks, creativeprocesses, and past works. These initial interactions lay the groundwork for meaningful collaboration, encouraging curiosity, mutual learning, and the blending of artistic and scientific perspectives.
